Search is a design problem

SEO

Search is often treated as a technical afterthought: titles, tags, a blog that nobody owns. The pages that earn attention are designed — structured, written and paced — to answer a specific question better than the alternatives.

Start with the question

Every useful page has a job. Compare two approaches. Explain a service. Help someone choose a location. If you cannot say the job in a sentence, the page will not rank for anything that matters.

Make the answer visible

Headings, modules and media should make the answer skimmable in ten seconds and complete in three minutes. That is design. The schema and the sitemap come after.

Templates beat one-offs

A good service or location template will outperform a pile of unique pages that nobody can maintain. Build the pattern. Then fill it with care.
